About LTZ files

The .ltz file extension is most frequently associated with DIALux, the industry-standard lighting design software by DIAL GmbH. These files function as Luminaire Data containers, encapsulating critical photometric information (how a light fixture distributes light), 3D geometry, and mounting specifications.

While essential for calculating lux levels in architectural projects, .ltz files are highly proprietary and act as a "black box" for users outside the DIALux ecosystem. Architects and engineers often struggle because these files cannot be directly imported into AutoCAD or Revit without the specific plugin, and they are unreadable by standard text editors. Users typically need to convert these files to universal photometric standards like IES (North America) or LDT (Europe) to use the lighting data in other simulation tools like AGi32 or Relux. For documentation purposes, converting the data to PDF provides a viewable specification sheet.

Less commonly, an .ltz file may be a compressed Light Set file from Poser (3D character art software), used to save storage space compared to the standard LT2 format. It might also be a raw style file from the open-source photo editor LightZone.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LTZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GIF, LZT, JPG, MP4, PNG, JFIF and FS files.

The LTZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LTZ converter.
