About LTZ files

The .LTZ file extension is primarily used as a DIALux luminaire data file by DIALux, a leading professional lighting design software. These files package 3D fixture models, photometric distribution curves, and technical specifications for commercial lighting setups. Alternatively, .LTZ files can be LightZone image files utilized by the open-source photo editor LightZone, or Compressed Poser Light Set Files managed by Bondware Poser.

The primary disadvantage of the .LTZ format is its highly proprietary and fragmented nature. The extension overlaps across three completely different industries (architectural lighting, photography, and 3D character modeling). Users without the exact authoring software installed cannot view or use the files. For example, a DIALux luminaire file cannot be opened natively in standard CAD programs without first being processed by the DIALux photometric engine.

To overcome these limitations, users must convert the proprietary data into universal formats. For DIALux users, this usually means importing the .LTZ into a project and exporting technical reports to PDF or floorplans to DWG or DXF. If dealing with a LightZone edit, you must export the non-destructive editing steps to standard web formats like JPG or PNG to share the image.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it relies heavily on native rendering engines to interpret complex physics (like light scatter) or raw photography parameters. Standard online converters fail because they do not possess these specialized algorithms.

Despite this, convert.guru offers a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our system inspects the file's internal signature, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (such as an embedded preview image or raw XML data), viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LTZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GIF, LZT, JPG, MP4, PNG, JFIF and FS files.

The LTZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LTZ converter.
