Extract text from LANsurveyor maps (LSU)
To convert LSU maps to another format, you need SolarWinds LANsurveyor or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Network Topology Map" file type, you need software like SolarWinds LANsurveyor or a similar tool.
The .LSU file extension represents a LANsurveyor Map created by SolarWinds. IT professionals use these files to store auto-discovered network topologies, including maps of switches, routers, subnets, and node connectivity. They are managed natively by SolarWinds LANsurveyor or its successor, Network Topology Mapper.
Users often need to convert .LSU files because the format is highly proprietary and tied to expensive enterprise software. Without an active SolarWinds license, you cannot view the network map. Web browsers and standard image viewers do not support this format, making it extremely frustrating to share critical network architecture documents with external contractors or management.
The best workaround is to convert the file into standard formats like PDF, PNG, or Microsoft Visio VSDX. Keep in mind that converting to a static image like a PNG will result in the loss of interactive node data, SNMP configurations, and live polling links.
