About LRM files
An .LRM file is an Encarta Class Server Learning Resource File used to store digital educational content, lessons, and assignments.
These files were created and managed by Microsoft Encarta Class Server, an early school management and e-learning system that is now entirely obsolete.
Users need to convert .LRM files because the format is effectively dead. It is a closed, proprietary data container from the early 2000s. Modern web browsers, text editors, and current operating systems cannot read them natively. Without access to the original 20-year-old Microsoft software, your educational data is completely trapped and inaccessible.
The best target formats for conversion are standard, future-proof document files like TXT or PDF. If the file acts as an archive, extracting its contents to a ZIP folder is recommended. Be aware that complex interactive elements or original Encarta formatting will almost certainly be lost during any extraction process.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it relies on undocumented, legacy code. Often, only the original Encarta software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail to process it because modern libraries do not support the Encarta architecture. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LRM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LRM file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Microsoft Encarta or similar software from the "Educational Resource Packaging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to LRM, try Microsoft Encarta or another comparable tool in the "Educational Resource Packaging" category.
The LRM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LRM converter.
