To convert other file formats to the "Ransomware Encrypted File" file type, you need software like Kaspersky Ransomware Decryptors or a similar tool.
About LOCKY files
A .locky file is a user data file that has been maliciously encrypted by the Locky ransomware. This malware targets personal and enterprise computers, actively seeking out valuable documents, databases, and images. It scrambles the contents using strong RSA-2048 and AES-128 encryption algorithms, appending the .locky extension to the filename.
Victims urgently need to convert or restore these files back to their original working formats, such as DOCX, JPG, PDF, or XLSX. The extreme disadvantage of this format is that it completely locks you out of your own data. It demands a financial ransom in exchange for a private decryption key, making the files completely inaccessible to standard software. Standard file recovery is impossible without a dedicated decryptor or the original key.
Because this is a severely encrypted data container, standard online converters fail to process it. Normal file converters rely on reading standard file headers and internal structures. In a .locky file, all recognizable metadata and content are mathematically randomized. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert; often, only dedicated cybersecurity tools like the decryptors provided by Kaspersky or the No More Ransom project can properly read or export the data, provided the specific attack's key has been recovered. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - or if the file was merely renamed rather than fully encrypted - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LOCKY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LOCKY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LOCKY converter.
