About LITEMOD files
The .litemod file is a specialized modification package built for LiteLoader, a lightweight modding API designed for Minecraft. It functions as a container that stores compiled Java classes, in-game textures, audio files, and a mandatory litemod.json metadata configuration file. To run these modifications, users historically relied on the LiteLoader profile inside the Minecraft Launcher.
This format presents significant real-world challenges because LiteLoader is largely obsolete and lacks support for modern Minecraft versions. The format is tightly coupled with its specific API version. You cannot use these files with modern, popular modding frameworks like Fabric or Forge. Attempting to load a .litemod on an unsupported game version results in immediate crashes. Furthermore, the compiled Java bytecode inside the file requires reverse-engineering if you want to update the mod.
Directly converting a .litemod file into a working JAR file for Forge or Fabric is technically impossible without entirely rewriting the source code. The best practical conversion targets are archive formats. You can convert the file to a standard ZIP archive to safely extract the internal assets. This allows you to recover valuable PNG textures, OGG sound effects, and JSON data files, although the active game code itself remains non-portable.
Because this is a closed, application-dependent archive, standard online converters fail to process it properly. Often only the original modding environment can natively read the bytecode. Since our analysis detects the underlying standard archive structure, viewing and extraction of the embedded media files is fully supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LITEMOD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LITEMOD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LITEMOD converter.
