About LD2 files
The .ld2 file format functions primarily as a compiled dictionary database used by Lingoes Translator and sometimes associated with ABBYY Lingvo. These files contain massive offline repositories of multilingual definitions, translations, HTML layouts, and pronunciations. A secondary, less common use for the .ld2 extension is storing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) ladder logic diagrams for GSK CNC Equipment used in industrial manufacturing.
The primary disadvantage of the .ld2 format is its heavily encrypted, closed ecosystem. Files often exceed several hundred megabytes and cannot be opened by standard text editors or modern web browsers. Locking dictionary data inside this proprietary format restricts users from migrating their downloaded or custom language libraries to modern, open-source platforms like GoldenDict or StarDict. Furthermore, the original Lingoes software is largely considered legacy, meaning users risk losing access to their data on newer operating systems.
To liberate this data, users typically want to convert .ld2 files into accessible target formats like CSV, XML, TXT, or standard dictionary formats like DICT. Because the format is a closed, proprietary binary archive, standard online converters fail to process it. Our analysis engine can inspect the file and show underlying text or internal content. If our system detects an embedded format we can process, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LD2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted LSD, DSL, DICT and LD1 files.

The LD2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LD2 converter.
