Convert a file to LD2

To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Dictionary Database" file type, you need software like Lingoes Translator or a similar tool.

About LD2 files

The .LD2 file is the proprietary dictionary database format used by Lingoes Translator, a once-popular translation software. These files function as compressed, read-only containers for vast amounts of lexicographical data, including definitions, phonetic symbols, and cross-references.

Users typically need to convert .LD2 files because the format is a "black box" - it is encrypted, compressed, and locked to the outdated Lingoes interface. You cannot open it in a text editor like Notepad or a standard database viewer to see the word list. To use this valuable language data in modern tools like GoldenDict, Anki, or mobile apps, you must extract the content. We recommend converting to TXT or XML for raw data access, or CSV for importing into spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel and flashcard systems. Note that conversion is technically an extraction process, so some complex HTML formatting inside definitions may be simplified during the transition.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LD2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LSD, DSL, DICT and LD1 files.

The LD2 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LD2 converter.
