About LCN files

The .LCN file format primarily functions as a channel list configuration file used by Evolution and similar satellite receivers to store broadcast frequencies, channel names, and sorting orders. A secondary use of the .LCN extension is as a secure license file created by Trymedia Systems to authenticate digital rights management (DRM) for PC games. The primary disadvantage of the channel list format is its strict dependency on specific set-top box firmware. The format is typically a proprietary binary, making it impossible to edit with standard text tools. Users frequently need to edit channel line-ups on a PC rather than using a slow TV remote, which requires parsing the .LCN file. The best target formats for channel lists are CSV, XML, or TXT. Converting to these formats allows you to easily sort channels in spreadsheet software before converting back to the receiver's required format. Conversely, converting Trymedia .LCN license files is impossible because they contain hardware-tied encrypted DRM keys. Standard online converters generally fail to process .LCN files because they are closed, proprietary formats lacking open documentation. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. Even if direct conversion is blocked by proprietary encoding, our system can identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LCN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LCN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LCN converter.
