About LCN files
The .LCN file extension is primarily associated with Satellite Receiver Channel Lists, specifically for Evolution brand set-top boxes (STBs). These files function as a backup or export of the device's "Logical Channel Number" configuration, storing the order, frequency, and identifiers of TV and radio stations. Users typically encounter this file when backing up their receiver to a USB drive or attempting to reorganize their channel lineup on a PC.
The key problem with .LCN files is their proprietary binary or structured format (often referred to as an "EVOL archive"). They cannot be opened directly in standard editors like Microsoft Excel or Notepad. To make the data usable - for example, to sort channels alphabetically or remove duplicates - users must convert the file using specialized STB channel editors or the specific Evolution Channel Editor utility. A secondary, less common use (approx. 0.9%) is as a License File for games protected by Trymedia Systems (ActiveMARK DRM). In this context, the file is a locked credential that should not be modified or converted, as doing so will break the associated software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LCN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
