About L5K files

The .L5K file is an ASCII text-based import/export format used by Rockwell Automation's industrial control software, specifically RSLogix 5000 and its successor, Studio 5000 Logix Designer. Unlike the standard binary ACD project file, the .L5K format is human-readable, making it critical for version control, diffing changes in text editors, and repairing corrupted project databases. However, because it is a raw text representation of ladder logic and controller tags, it cannot be executed directly by a PLC. To run or graphically edit the project, users must "import" the .L5K file back into the licensed Studio 5000 environment to regenerate the binary ACD file. While newer versions of the software prefer the XML-based .L5X format for external parsing, .L5K remains a common legacy standard for moving projects between different software versions.

Convert.Guru analyzes your L5K file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted L5X, ACD and RSL files.
