About KYR files
A .KYR file is an encrypted key ring database used by HCL Domino (formerly IBM Lotus Domino) to store SSL/TLS certificates, public keys, and private keys. Administrators use these files to enable secure web traffic on Domino servers. This format is highly restrictive and proprietary. It is a closed binary format that cannot be opened with standard certificate managers or text editors. Files require a matching STH (stash) file, which holds the obfuscated password. Without the stash file and the proprietary kyrtool, extracting the certificates is nearly impossible. Standard web browsers and operating systems do not natively support this format. Users typically need to convert .KYR files when migrating from Domino to modern web servers like Nginx or Apache. The best target formats are standard PEM, P12, or PFX files. Converting to PEM splits the key ring into universally readable base64 text files containing the private key and certificate chain. This file format is difficult to open or convert online because standard online converters cannot process the proprietary IBM encryption or read the required stash file. You usually need the original server utilities to export the data properly. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KYR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The KYR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KYR converter.
