Extract text from Battery 2 drum kits (KT2)

The .KT2 file is a legacy drum kit preset used primarily by Native Instruments Battery 2, a popular software drum sampler released in the early 2000s. These files do not usually contain audio data themselves; instead, they store complex mapping instructions, velocity layers, modulation envelopes, and file paths pointing to external WAV or AIF audio samples.
Users often need to convert .KT2 files because Battery 2 is outdated and incompatible with modern operating systems. A major disadvantage of this format is its reliance on absolute file paths; if the referenced audio samples are moved, the kit breaks and loads empty. Furthermore, it requires expensive proprietary software to open and edit. The best approach is to import the file into a newer version of the software, such as Battery 4, and save it as a modern .KT4 file. Alternatively, specialized conversion tools like Chicken Systems Translator can attempt to translate the kit mapping into NKI (Kontakt) or other sampler formats.
