A .KID file typically serves as a visual learning document created by Kidspiration, an educational mind-mapping software for students developed by Inspiration Software. These files contain visual diagrams, text notes, and embedded audio to help young learners organize concepts. Alternatively, a .KID file acts as a CAD pipe edge profile utilized by Allplan, a BIM and CAD platform by Nemetschek. In the CAD context, these files store structural geometry data using a standard XML format.
Users frequently need to convert .KID files because the original Kidspiration application is a legacy, proprietary software that requires a paid license and is no longer actively updated for modern operating systems. Sharing educational mind maps with parents or teachers is frustrating because standard web browsers cannot display them natively.
