About JSE files
A .JSE file is a JScript source code file that has been obfuscated using the Microsoft Script Encoder. Originally designed by Microsoft to help developers protect their intellectual property by rendering the source code unreadable to casual observers, this format does not offer true cryptographic security. Instead, it scrambles the text to prevent easy editing while allowing the Windows Script Host (WSH) to execute the instructions directly.
The primary limitation for users is that standard text editors like Notepad++ display .JSE content as a garbled mess of characters, making it impossible to audit, debug, or modify the logic without decoding it first. Furthermore, this format is frequently exploited by malware authors to hide malicious payloads from basic antivirus scanners and human analysts. Consequently, the most common conversion need is decoding the file back to a standard JS (JavaScript) or TXT format to reveal the underlying source code for inspection or editing. For safe execution without relying on the host environment, users may also seek to package these scripts into standalone EXE files.
Convert.Guru analyzes your JSE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert JSE file to EXE, MSI, APP, DMG, DEB, RPM, PKG, RUN, SH, BAT, CMD or COM, you can use Windows_Script_Host or similar software from the "Obfuscated Script Execution" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert JAR, APP, SCR, IPA, COM, AAB, PS1, DMG, VBS, EXE, XAPK or MSI files to JSE, try Windows_Script_Host or another comparable tool in the "Obfuscated Script Execution" category.
The JSE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JSE converter.
