About JMT files

A .JMT file is a proprietary project file created by the JMatch module of the Hot Potatoes educational software suite. It stores the configuration, vocabulary lists, and matching logic used by teachers to build interactive matching exercises. While Hot Potatoes is a popular legacy tool for creating quizzes, the .JMT format itself is highly restricted. It is a closed, authoring-only file type. You cannot send a .JMT file directly to students or open it in a web browser. It requires the original desktop software, which was last updated as freeware in 2009, making it increasingly difficult to install and manage on modern operating systems. To make the exercise usable, users must export the .JMT file into standard formats. The primary target is HTML, which generates the interactive web page for students. Alternatively, converting the extracted text pairs into a PDF or TXT file is necessary if you need to print physical worksheets for classroom use. Standard online converters fail to process .JMT files because they are raw data containers, not standard documents. They lack standard layout formatting.
