About JCR files

A .JCR file is a binary data file containing picture logic puzzles, specifically designed for use with QNonograms. Nonograms, also known as Picross or Griddlers, are logic puzzles where players fill in a grid based on numerical clues to reveal a hidden picture. The primary software used to open, solve, and create these files is QNonograms, an open-source cross-platform solver. While popular among puzzle enthusiasts, the .JCR format has severe disadvantages. Because it is stored as raw binary data, it is a closed, unreadable format outside of dedicated puzzle software. You cannot open it with standard text editors, and if you do not have a specialized app installed, you cannot view the puzzle, print it, or share it easily. To solve these limitations, users often need to convert .JCR files to CWD, which stores the exact same puzzle data in easily readable plain text. Alternatively, converting the puzzle to an image format like PNG or a PDF document is highly requested so users can print the blank grid and solve it manually. Converting a .JCR file is difficult because it relies on a niche, application-specific binary structure. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the logic to reconstruct the nonogram grid. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our engine can inspect the file, and if our analysis detects extractable structural data, viewing the text clues or converting it to a more accessible format may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your JCR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
