About IXA files
The .ixa extension is shared by two distinct industries: industrial automation and legacy video authoring.
1. Keyence Vision Sensor Settings (Most Common):
In modern contexts, an .IXA file is a configuration backup created by Keyence IV and IV-Series Vision Sensors. These files store detection tools, master images, thresholds, and exposure settings used on assembly lines to verify product quality.
- The Problem: These are proprietary binary or encrypted XML files. You cannot open them in a text editor or standard viewer. They are strictly locked to the IV-Navigator software.
- The Solution: Use the official Keyence IV-Navigator (or IV-H/IV-G software) to open the file. To "convert" it, you must use the software's "Export" function to generate a CSV of the parameters or print a PDF report of the settings for documentation.
2. VCDEasy / Ulead Disc Image Index:
In legacy media contexts, an .IXA file is a track index or disc image layout used by VCDEasy and older Ulead (now Corel) software like DVD MovieFactory. It describes how video tracks (MPEG-1) are arranged on a Video CD (VCD).
- The Problem: VCDs are obsolete, and modern media players (VLC, Windows Media Player) do not recognize .IXA files because they are just maps of data, not the video itself.
- The Solution: Do not try to convert the .IXA file directly. Instead, look for the accompanying BIN, CUE, or MPG files in the same folder. These contain the actual video, which can be converted to MP4 or MKV using tools like HandBrake.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IXA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted IXB, UPX and UVR files.
The IXA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IXA converter.
