The .ivi file format is highly fragmented, serving several distinct, heavily proprietary purposes across different industries. Primarily, it operates as a video evidence management file or incident database file utilized by i-PRO Video Insight and incident tracking software by Lumivero. Alternatively, in a governmental context, it functions as an Italian Declaration of Intent (Dichiarazione di Intento) data file processed by the Agenzia delle Entrate (Italian Revenue Agency). Niche industrial uses also include solar I-V curve data files for HT Instruments or PVsyst, and audio spectrum analysis files for Ivie Technologies.
The main disadvantage of the .ivi format is its strictly proprietary and often secure nature. Files generated by VMS (Video Management Systems) or government tax portals are typically encrypted or rigidly structured to prevent tampering. This means they cannot be opened by standard media players (like VLC) or generic text editors without a specialized license or specific portal access. Users face massive friction when trying to share these files with legal teams, send tax declarations to accountants, or embed solar charts into standard business reports.
For video evidence files, the ideal conversion targets are MP4 or MKV for universal video playback, or PDF for incident database reports. Tax and solar data files are best converted to CSV, XLSX, or PDF for straightforward review. However, this format is exceptionally difficult to process externally. Because it is a closed format often containing proprietary security metadata and tamper-evident hashes, standard online converters completely fail to process it. Usually, only the original software can reliably read the file and export the data.
