About IVC files

The .IVC file extension primarily identifies legacy media catalogs created by iView MediaPro, a digital asset management tool that predates modern solutions like Adobe Lightroom. These files function as databases, storing thumbnails, metadata, and file paths for large collections of images and videos, rather than the media itself.

The main challenge with .IVC files is their obsolescence; iView MediaPro was acquired by Microsoft (becoming Expression Media) and later Phase One, eventually being discontinued. Consequently, opening an original .IVC file often requires outdated operating systems or difficult-to-find legacy installers. Users typically need to convert these catalogs to extract their organizational data. For data migration, converting to XML or CSV allows the metadata to be imported into modern DAM software. For visual reference, converting the thumbnail cache to PDF or standard image formats like JPG is ideal.

A secondary, unrelated use for this extension is in industrial manufacturing, where it serves as a job file for IVS Solutions laser marking systems. These files contain vector paths and machine instructions for engraving. Due to their proprietary nature, these industrial files are best converted to standard vector formats like DXF or SVG for viewing in standard CAD software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IVC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted P7M, IVN, FMF and XTX files.

The IVC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IVC converter.
