Convert ISN to another file type
To convert ISN scripts to another format, you need InstallShield or other System software.
Convert a file to ISN
To convert other file formats to the "Uninstallation Script File" file type, you need software like InstallShield or a similar tool.
About ISN files
The .ISN file is an InstallShield uninstallation script created by Flexera Software. It functions as a precise log file, recording every directory, file, and registry key that the software installer creates on a computer. When you decide to remove the program, the uninstaller reads this script to reverse the process.
InstallShield is the primary software that generates and executes these files. Because they are designed exclusively for system operations, .ISN files are highly proprietary and rigid. They are locked to the specific application version they were generated for. You cannot use them to install software, and attempting to edit them manually will usually break the uninstaller completely.
Users typically try to open or convert .ISN files when an uninstallation fails or when they want to audit what an installer actually did to their system. The major disadvantage of this format is its opacity. It is a closed file type that is not natively supported by web browsers and often throws formatting errors in standard text editors. You cannot just click on it to see the contents.
The most realistic conversion targets are TXT or LOG files. Converting to plain text allows you to read the recorded installation paths and registry modifications, though you will completely lose the executable functionality of the script.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a proprietary mix of logging data and execution commands meant only for InstallShield. Standard online converters fail to process it because they expect standard document types.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ISN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ISN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ISN converter.
