The .iptheme file is a proprietary raw theme package utilized by Stardock IconPackager to mass-replace default Windows desktop icons. It functions as a bundled archive containing multiple standard icon files alongside configuration scripts.
Opening or applying these files natively requires an active installation of Stardock software. This presents a massive disadvantage for standard users, as it locks the embedded icon assets behind a proprietary, commercial ecosystem. Applying themes through third-party installers can also alter Windows registry settings, which sometimes leads to broken system icons if the software is removed improperly. Standard image viewers and file explorers cannot natively read the package wrapper.
Extracting the file to ZIP or converting the contents to ICO and PNG formats is the best solution. This allows you to harvest the individual, high-quality icons for web design, app development, or manual system customization without relying on paid bloatware.
