About IPLB files
The .iplb file is an iPhoto Library Archive Document created by Apple's legacy iPhoto application. It stores the organizational structure, metadata, album configurations, and non-destructive image edits for a user's photo collection.
Users typically open or migrate these files using the modern Apple Photos app on macOS. However, the .iplb format has severe disadvantages. It is an obsolete, closed, proprietary format that is completely unsupported on Windows, Linux, or mobile devices. Because it acts as a macOS package disguise for a complex directory of databases and media, these files often exceed hundreds of gigabytes. Standard online converters fail to process it because it is not a flat media file, but a complex nested database structure.
Instead of converting the entire database, users usually need to extract their original JPG, PNG, or HEIC files. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert outside of the Apple ecosystem. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IPLB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IPLB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IPLB converter.
