About IOB files
An .IOB file most commonly serves as a Minecraft structure schematic used by the Iris World Gen mod (specifically Iris V2). These files store 3D block placement data used to procedurally generate custom structures within the Minecraft game world. Less frequently, an .IOB file may be an obsolete Imagine 3D object file originally created for the Amiga-based Impulse Imagine software (previously Turbo Silver), or it might be an NLP named entity data file representing the Inside-Outside-Beginning tagging format, heavily used in datasets like the ATIS NLP benchmark and by the Stanford Named Entity Recognizer. Users usually need to convert these files because their native environments are highly restrictive and isolated. Minecraft schematics cannot be opened natively in standard 3D modeling software like Blender. Imagine 3D files are ancient, relying on obsolete 1990s technology, making them effectively locked away from modern users. NLP data files feature strict plain-text formatting that is useless to non-developers. If you are working with the 3D or schematic variants, the ideal conversion targets are standard formats like OBJ or STL, though you may lose specific game metadata or texture mapping. For NLP files, converting to CSV or standard TXT is usually the goal. Unfortunately, .IOB files are notoriously difficult to convert. The Minecraft and Imagine 3D variants are closed, proprietary binary formats. Standard online converters fail to process them because they lack the highly specific voxel engines or legacy polygon decoders required to interpret the raw binary arrays. Often, only the original software or specialized game modding tools can properly read or export the data. Just drag and drop your .IOB file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Even if direct conversion fails due to proprietary encryption or legacy encoding, our analyzer can inspect the file, reveal any embedded plain text (which is especially useful for recovering NLP data), and help you determine exactly what software you need to proceed.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IOB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IOB file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Iris Shaders or similar software from the "Minecraft Structure Schematic" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to IOB, try Iris Shaders or another comparable tool in the "Minecraft Structure Schematic" category.
The IOB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IOB converter.
