An .INDP file is an Adobe InDesign CS3 Package. It was designed specifically for editorial workflows to return edited content - such as text and graphics - from an editor back to a designer's main layout. These files were primarily created and managed using Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy.
Today, the .INDP format presents major disadvantages. It is highly outdated, having been replaced by the IDAP format in Creative Suite 4. It is not a complete document but rather a dependent package that requires the original INDD master file to display the layout properly. Because it is a proprietary legacy format, you cannot open it in standard web browsers, free word processors, or modern publishing tools without encountering errors.
Users typically want to convert .INDP to PDF to view the content, or to DOCX to rescue the text. When converting, be aware that you will likely lose all formatting and layout information, as the file only contains isolated text "stories" rather than the full page design.
