About IIL files

The .iil file extension represents a CleanSweep Installation Log. It was primarily used by Norton CleanSweep, a legacy system optimization utility by Symantec, to record every file, registry key, and system setting changed during a new software installation. Originally managed by CleanSweep, this log allowed the software to perfectly reverse installations and safely uninstall programs without leaving residual digital clutter. The primary disadvantage of the .iil format is its extreme obsolescence. CleanSweep is dead software, and modern operating systems do not utilize or support these specific log files. Furthermore, the format is a proprietary, closed structure that often appears as gibberish in standard text editors. The best conversion targets are TXT or CSV, allowing you to recover the raw text data, file paths, and registry strings for forensic or historical system analysis. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it relies on Symantec's proprietary logging architecture. Often only the original software can properly read or export the structured data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IIL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BHF, HCT and _DD files.
