About IGZ files

An .IGZ file is a proprietary compressed game asset archive containing 3D models, textures, animations, and level scripts. It is heavily associated with the Polarbit Icarus game engine and the Alchemy engine used by Activision, most notably in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. These archives are strictly locked down and are not designed to be opened or modified by end-users. The structure is proprietary, meaning standard archive tools like 7-Zip or WinRAR will fail to extract the contents. Modding scenes rely on custom, fan-made scripts to unpack the data, which often require command-line knowledge and break with game updates. Because .IGZ files are closed formats, traditional online converters cannot process them. The original game engine is typically the only software that natively reads the data. We analyze the binary structure to detect any supported underlying or embedded formats, such as generic text strings or standard raster images, making partial viewing or extraction possible.
