About IGT files

The .IGT file extension represents an iGrafx Document Template. It is used by iGrafx, a prominent business process modeling and management software, to store predefined structural layouts for flowcharts, process maps, and organisational diagrams.

This format is heavily proprietary. The main disadvantage of the .IGT format is its closed ecosystem. It requires an expensive, commercial software license to open, view, or edit. It is not supported by standard web browsers, and you cannot open it in standard office applications like Microsoft Word. Sharing these templates with stakeholders who do not have the software installed frequently leads to workflow bottlenecks.

To share these diagrams, the best conversion targets are PDF for read-only document sharing, or PNG and SVG for embedding the flowcharts into presentations. For migrating process data to other systems, exporting to the open BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) standard is highly recommended. However, achieving this conversion outside of the native software is difficult.

Because the format is proprietary, standard online converters usually fail to process the complex vector graphics and metadata inside. Often, only the original iGrafx software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IGT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IGT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IGT converter.
