The .ICAP file is an InCopy Package File used in professional editorial and publishing workflows. Adobe InDesign users generate these packages to send stories and layout previews to editors using Adobe InCopy. The package safely bundles the text (usually as ICML), font data, and linked graphics into a single compressed container, allowing writers to edit copy without altering the overall page layout.
This format is highly proprietary and tightly locked into the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem. Opening an .ICAP file natively requires an expensive monthly subscription. It is not supported by standard web browsers, word processors, or mobile devices, which creates extreme friction when sharing drafts with clients or non-designers.
