The .icalevent file format stores an individual calendar event created by Apple Calendar (formerly known as iCal) on macOS. It holds standard scheduling data, including start and end times, locations, attendee lists, and alarms. You can open these files natively on Apple devices, but they are generally used as internal storage objects within the app's database rather than as shareable files.
Because .icalevent acts as an internal, application-specific file type for the Apple ecosystem, it presents significant compatibility issues on Windows, Android, and web browsers. Sharing an .icalevent file directly with a PC user usually results in an "unsupported file format" error. Furthermore, it often includes Apple-specific X-APPLE- property tags that other calendar clients might ignore or reject.
To share this event universally, you must convert the .icalevent file to the standard ICS (iCalendar) format. You can also extract the text to CSV or TXT for spreadsheet import or readable logs.
