About IC3D files
The .ic3d file extension is a proprietary 3D scene file format. It is primarily used by two distinct industries: mechanical engineering via IronCAD to store assembled 3D CAD compositions, and the packaging design industry via the iC3D Suite (by Hybrid Software) to simulate highly realistic virtual packaging mockups like glass bottles and shrink wraps. To properly open or convert these files natively, users require either IronCAD Compose or the iC3D Suite. The primary disadvantage of the .ic3d format is its strict proprietary lock-in. Files often exceed 100MB and cannot be opened by standard operating systems, web browsers, or generic 3D modeling tools. If you do not have an active, expensive subscription to the exact software that created the file, you are completely blocked from viewing the 3D geometry, ray-traced lighting setups, or embedded textures, making collaboration with external clients extremely frustrating. To bypass these limitations, it is highly recommended to convert .ic3d files to standardized open formats. For 3D printing and cross-platform editing, converting to .OBJ, .STL, or .STEP is best. For client approvals and 2D viewing, .PDF, .JPG, or .PNG targets are ideal. However, exporting to standard 3D formats will strip away proprietary parametric constraints, dynamic shrink-wrap physics, and custom lighting data. Because the .ic3d format is closed and encrypted, standard third-party online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the 3D data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IC3D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert IC3D file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use IronCAD or similar software from the "3D Scene & Packaging Mockup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to IC3D, try IronCAD or another comparable tool in the "3D Scene & Packaging Mockup" category.
The IC3D Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IC3D converter.
