The .ibdat file is an IsoBuster Data File created by IsoBuster, a highly specialized data recovery software developed by Smart Projects. It stores raw byte data extracted from damaged optical discs, hard drives, or flash drives during forensic or recovery operations. Typically, this format operates as part of a 'Managed Image File' system, working directly alongside an IBP index file. The ibp file holds the structural metadata and sector mapping, while the .ibdat file acts as the raw payload container.
Because this is a proprietary split-archive format, the .ibdat file presents severe disadvantages for everyday use. It cannot be mounted natively by modern operating systems or opened with standard archive extraction tools like 7-Zip. It requires a paid software license to utilize its full recovery features.
