About IAA files

The .IAA file is an INTUS Audio Archive developed by PCS Systemtechnik. It is used by INTUS hardware terminals - specialized devices primarily utilized for employee timecard management, physical access control, and manufacturing data collection. The file itself does not contain a single continuous audio track. Instead, it serves as a compressed archive that bundles all the individual alert sounds, error beeps, and voice prompts output by the terminal into one unified package.

Historically, managing these files required the proprietary PCS Systemtechnik INTUS RemoteConf software, which is now officially discontinued and heavily outdated on modern Windows platforms. This creates a significant disadvantage: .IAA files are essentially locked, niche archives that are completely unsupported by modern operating systems, web browsers, and media players like VLC media player. You cannot natively play them, edit them, or share the audio with other departments.

Because the format uses the standard Deflate compression algorithm internally to save disk space, the best workaround is to convert .IAA files to standard archive formats like ZIP, or extract the internal audio payload into widespread formats such as MP3 or WAV. Standard online audio converters completely fail to process this file because they incorrectly expect a standard media stream (like audio data) rather than a compressed archive envelope. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert, and often only the original obsolete software can properly read or export the data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IAA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IAA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IAA converter.
