About I7 files
The .I7 file format is a source code document written for Inform 7, a popular design system created by Graham Nelson for writing interactive fiction and text adventures. Unlike standard coding formats with rigid syntaxes, an .I7 file contains logic written in a unique natural language programming style that reads much like standard English prose. The main disadvantage of the .I7 format is its highly specialized, proprietary-feeling nature. You cannot simply share an .I7 file with a friend and expect them to play your text adventure - they will only see raw text. Opening these files requires the dedicated Inform 7 IDE or a plain text editor like Microsoft Notepad or Visual Studio Code. Furthermore, because it acts purely as a logic blueprint, the file itself is entirely unplayable without being compiled. To share your interactive fiction, you need to convert or compile this file. For straightforward text archiving, editing, or sharing scripts with beta readers, convert .I7 to standard TXT or MD (Markdown). To actually distribute a playable text adventure, the file must be compiled into standard Z-machine formats like Z5 or Z8, or Glulx formats like ULX.
Convert.Guru analyzes your I7 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert I7 file to JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO, RS or SWIFT, you can use Inform 7 or similar software from the "Interactive Fiction Source Code" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The I7 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our I7 converter.
