Convert I5Z to another file type
To convert I5Z files to another format, you need IUCLID or other Database software.
Convert a file to I5Z
To convert other file formats to the "Export Archive Container" file type, you need software like IUCLID or a similar tool.
About I5Z files
The .I5Z file format is a proprietary data export container created by the IUCLID (International Uniform Chemical Information Database) version 5 software. It is heavily utilized by chemical companies and regulatory bodies in the European Union to manage dossiers for REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) compliance. These files package complex, hierarchical chemical hazard and safety data into a single, easily transportable file.
The main disadvantage of the .I5Z format is that it is a closed, highly specialized system file. It requires a heavy, database-driven desktop application to open and read natively. Furthermore, IUCLID 5 is an older system, having been largely superseded by IUCLID 6 (which uses the .I6Z format). Users without access to the specific database software face a major roadblock, as standard text editors and web browsers cannot natively render the structured chemical data hidden inside.
Technically, an .I5Z file is a renamed ZIP archive containing structured XML documents alongside binary attachments like PDF reports or JPG images. Standard online converters fail to process it because they do not understand the specific IUCLID XML schema. The most practical conversion targets involve extracting the archive to access the raw XML data for parsing, or extracting the embedded PDF files for reading.
Because this is a specialized regulatory container, direct conversion to flat formats like Excel is difficult. Our tool can inspect the internal archive, extract the underlying embedded files, and allow you to recover crucial documents without needing to install specialized chemical compliance software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your I5Z file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The I5Z Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our I5Z converter.
