The .HYPE file extension is a proprietary project format created by Tumult Hype, a macOS application utilized to author interactive HTML5 web content, animations, and banners. These files store the complete working state of an animation project, including timelines, scenes, keyframes, JavaScript functions, and raw embedded assets like images and audio files.
The core disadvantage of the .HYPE format is its rigid platform dependency. It is exclusively supported on macOS and strictly requires a commercial license for Tumult Hype to open, edit, or correctly render. Web browsers cannot natively interpret a .HYPE file. Furthermore, a .HYPE file is actually a macOS package bundle masquerading as a single file. Transferring it across non-Apple file systems (like Windows or generic FTP servers) frequently corrupts the directory structure, rendering the project useless.
Users typically need to convert .HYPE projects into universally accessible, production-ready formats like an HTML web folder (with accompanying CSS and JS), standard MP4 video, or an animated GIF.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert online. Because it relies on a proprietary data structure and WebKit-based rendering, standard online converters fail to process the animation logic. Often, only the original Tumult Hype software can properly parse the timelines and export the final data.
