About HWM files

A .HWM file is a proprietary conversational part program generated by Hurco WinMax control software. These files contain the definitions for CNC machining operations, including tool setups, geometry data, and cutting parameters, structured in an XML format rather than standard ISO G-code. While this "conversational" format allows machinists to program complex parts quickly at the controller, it creates significant compatibility barriers. A .HWM file cannot be read directly by non-Hurco machines (like Haas or Fanuc) or standard CAM simulation software without a specific post-processor or translation layer. Users often find themselves locked out of their own data when trying to move production to a different machine or when archiving legacy parts. For interoperability, the best approach is to convert .HWM files to standard G-Code (NC or TAP) for machining, or to PDF for shop floor documentation. Because the file is XML-based, it can also be converted to TXT or XML for text-based analysis of tool parameters.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HWM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The HWM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HWM converter.
