About HS2 files

The .hs2 file extension is a proprietary study file created by HyperRESEARCH, a qualitative data analysis (QDA) tool developed by ResearchWare. It stores coding frameworks, source references, and annotations for qualitative research projects.

This format is strictly designed to be opened with the HyperRESEARCH desktop application. The primary disadvantage of the .hs2 format is its closed, proprietary nature. It is heavily dependent on commercial software, meaning collaborators or reviewers without a paid license cannot view the analysis. Furthermore, the .hs2 extension denotes a legacy version (HyperRESEARCH 2), which introduces long-term data preservation risks and compatibility hurdles with modern systems.

Researchers usually need to convert .hs2 files to standard open formats like CSV, TXT, or XML to share data sets or migrate to alternative QDA platforms like NVivo or MAXQDA.

Because .hs2 is a closed format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original ResearchWare software can properly read or export the structured qualitative data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HS2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted HSO2, RWT, HS3 and RWTL files.

The HS2 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HS2 converter.
