About HME files

The .HME file extension primarily denotes proprietary Security camera video recordings generated by Hikvision Digital Technology DVRs and IP cameras. A minor fraction of these files are legacy Windows Mobile Theme Files developed by Microsoft. As a video format, the .HME file is a proprietary, closed container engineered specifically for surveillance hardware. It typically requires specific software, such as the Hikvision VSPlayer, to open natively. This proprietary nature presents significant disadvantages for users. Standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player fail to recognize the format because they lack the necessary closed codecs. It is extremely difficult to share raw .HME evidence with police, lawyers, or insurance adjusters because they do not have the proprietary viewer installed. Users must convert .HME files to universal target formats like .MP4 or .AVI to guarantee broad playback compatibility. During this conversion process, proprietary metadata such as cryptographic watermarks may be lost or burned into the video track. Because this file format is a closed, proprietary format, standard web converters usually fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the encrypted surveillance data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like an H.264 stream, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HME file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LTH, MMZ and LSZ files.
