The .H4E file is a proprietary hardware configuration file used exclusively by the Line 6 POD HD400 guitar multi-effects processor. It stores digital signal processing (DSP) parameters, including amplifier models, cabinet simulations, effect chains, and precise equalization settings. Guitarists use these files to save, back up, and share custom tones. You manage these files on a computer using the official POD HD400 Edit software connected to the pedal via USB.
The primary disadvantage of the .H4E format is its strictly locked ecosystem. It is proprietary and restricted to a specific, legacy generation of hardware. You cannot open it natively on a smartphone, web browser, or standard text editor. Furthermore, these files are completely incompatible with newer hardware like the Line 6 Helix or even the closely related POD HD500.
