About GXH files
A .GXH file is a proprietary hatch pattern configuration file used exclusively by General CADD Pro software. It contains the mathematical definitions, line angles, spacing, and stroke patterns required to render repeating textures and cross-sections in 2D architectural and engineering drawings.
These files are strictly managed by General CADD Pro, a specialized CAD application designed as a modern Windows replacement for the legacy DOS-based Generic CADD program.
The main disadvantage of the .GXH format is severe vendor lock-in. It is a highly specialized proprietary file. You cannot natively import a .GXH file into industry-standard software like AutoCAD or MicroStation. Sharing raw hatch patterns with external engineering teams is completely ineffective unless they also own a General CADD Pro license. Furthermore, the format lacks native preview support in modern web browsers or operating systems.
To collaborate effectively, users often need to convert these pattern definitions into universally recognized formats. PAT (AutoCAD Hatch Pattern) is the global industry standard for CAD pattern definitions. Alternatively, users bypass the pattern file entirely and export the patterned drawings directly to DWG, DXF, or PDF to share the visual output. Be aware that mathematically translating proprietary patterns to another format can result in scaling errors or origin shifts.
Because .GXH is a closed, undocumented format, standard online converters fail to process it. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the pattern data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GXH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GXH Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GXH converter.
