About GVSP files

A .GVSP file is a Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight Project file, originally developed by Latitude Geographics (now VertiGIS). It stores the configuration, UI layout, and map service connections for custom geographic information system (GIS) web mapping applications. The enormous disadvantage of this format is its strict reliance on Microsoft Silverlight. Because Silverlight reached its end-of-life in October 2021, modern browsers completely block the plugin required to run these projects. You cannot open these files natively anymore without severely outdated and unsecure software environments. Additionally, the format is proprietary and locked into a legacy software ecosystem. Standard online converters fail to process it because it is a closed project configuration file rather than a standard document or media type. Converting it typically means extracting its internal configuration text to rebuild the application in modern HTML5 frameworks like VertiGIS Studio Web. While this file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original Geocortex software can properly read the data, we can still identify the file, inspect it, and show the internal text or XML content.
