About GUIDS files

A .guids file is a text-based mapping file used primarily by FMOD Studio to link internal Global Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) to specific audio events, banks, and buses. It acts as a critical index for game engines, notoriously serving as the backbone for custom audio modifications in simulation games like Euro Truck Simulator 2.

The main disadvantage of a .guids file is its strict association with the compiled FMOD build process. Without the corresponding bank files, these files are just raw text strings that cannot be played as audio and are entirely useless to standard media players. Modders frequently struggle with editing them manually, because a single formatting error or invalid character encoding can break a game's entire audio engine, resulting in complete silence during gameplay.

To make this data usable, you must extract the routing text. Convert .guids to TXT or CSV for safer reading, easier comparison, and spreadsheet analysis. For developers and modders, converting to JSON makes it much easier to parse complex event paths into custom scripts. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GUIDS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BANK, SII, SUI and SOUNDREF files.

The GUIDS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GUIDS converter.
