About GRIND files

A .grind file is a specialized recipe data file created by Juice Grinder, a legacy Windows application developed by Chris Formeister. Vapers use this software to calculate precise ratios of base ingredients like PG/VG (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), nicotine levels, and various flavorings. The file stores all these metrics, including mL or gram amounts and exact ingredient percentages, so users can accurately recreate their custom e-liquids.

The biggest disadvantage of the .grind format is its heavily proprietary and outdated nature. It cannot be opened by standard text editors, spreadsheets, or mobile browsers. Your custom recipes are essentially trapped inside a legacy program that requires Windows and older .NET Framework 4.0 installations. In fact, this specific extension was abandoned early on and replaced by the grindx format in version 1.1 of the software.

To make the data accessible, users must convert .grind files into universal formats. Converting to a CSV or XLS file allows you to view and adjust the raw mathematical ratios in Microsoft Excel, while converting to a PDF preserves the layout for easy printing as a recipe card.

Because this format is so obscure, typical online converters fail completely. Often, only the original Juice Grinder software can properly read the binary data and export it. If our analysis detects unencrypted text or recognizable ingredient names, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GRIND file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GRIND Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRIND converter.
