About GRADE files

A .grade file is a data document created by GradeStat, a specialized statistical analysis program developed by the Polish Academy of Sciences. It is designed for exploratory data analysis, allowing researchers to quickly investigate large datasets.

These files are native to GradeStat, which uses this format to store not just raw data tables, but also complex calculation results and unique visual outputs like dependence indices and over-representation maps.

The .grade format is highly proprietary and saved as a closed binary file. This means it is impossible to read with standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or basic text editors. It locks your research data into a niche academic tool that lacks widespread support on modern operating systems or web browsers, making data sharing and collaboration extremely difficult.

Users typically need to convert .grade files to standard formats like CSV, XLSX, or PDF to share statistical findings or analyze the tables in modern Business Intelligence tools. Note that when extracting raw table data to a spreadsheet, specialized visual plots and maps generated by the software will be lost.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because its internal binary structure is undocumented. Standard online converters fail to process it, and often only the original GradeStat software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GRADE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GRADE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRADE converter.
