About GMD2 files

The .gmd2 file extension is exclusively used for Geometry Dash custom level files. Developed by RobTop Games, these files contain the layout, triggers, and object placement data required to load user-created stages. Internally, a .gmd2 file is structured as a standard ZIP archive containing the raw level data. Players and modders, such as those using tools by HJfod, rely on these files to bypass the official game servers for sharing or backing up custom levels. The main disadvantage of the .gmd2 format is its proprietary nature. It requires a specific game client or custom modding utility to open. Standard text editors or media players cannot read it, and you cannot play the level outside of the game engine. Because the underlying structure is a ZIP file, the most practical conversion target is ZIP. Extracting it allows access to the internal data strings or XML files. This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to process the specific game logic and encoded data. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GMD2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
