About GMC files

The .gmc file is a Game Music Creator Sound file developed by Bitmagic for the Commodore Amiga system. It functions as a music tracker module. The file stores 8-bit digital audio samples (instruments) and sequencing data (patterns) together in one package. Demoscene musicians and retro game developers used this format to create soundtracks optimized for the Amiga hardware. Modern users can open these files with specialized tracker players like OpenMPT or the Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator (UADE).

The .gmc format has major disadvantages today. It is completely obsolete and proprietary. You cannot play a .gmc file natively on smartphones, web browsers, or standard media players like Apple Music. To listen to the music or use it in video editing software, you must convert the module to a standard audio format like MP3, WAV, or FLAC. Conversion is technically difficult because standard audio converters cannot process the internal sequencing logic. The file must be actively rendered into a continuous audio stream by a compatible tracker engine, rather than simply transcoded.

Because it requires specific legacy playback engines, standard online converters fail to process this proprietary format. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our platform can inspect the binary structure, extract embedded sample names or text, and if a supported tracker engine is detected, rendering to modern audio formats may still be possible.
