To convert other file formats to the "Translation Message Bundle" file type, you need software like Google Translator Toolkit or a similar tool.
About GMB files
The .GMB file extension is most commonly associated with Google Message Bundle files. These files were utilized by the Google Translator Toolkit to store translation and localization data bundles. A secondary use for the .GMB extension is for Grafcet sequential function charts, created and managed using MHJ-Software Grafcet-Monitor.
The main disadvantage of the Google Message Bundle format is that Google officially deprecated the Translator Toolkit in 2019. This means the primary native environment for opening, editing, or exporting these files no longer exists. Users left with legacy .GMB files face significant compatibility limits, as modern localization platforms prefer standard formats like PO, XLIFF, or JSON. For the Grafcet chart variant, the format is highly proprietary and strictly bound to the MHJ-Software ecosystem, requiring an active license to read or modify the logic sequences.
Because these files are largely obsolete or locked to niche industrial software, standard online converters fail to process them. Translation data is best converted to XLIFF or CSV for modern CAT tools, while Grafcet charts should ideally be exported to PDF or SVG for documentation purposes. Unfortunately, direct conversion outside the original software is notoriously difficult because the exact data serialization is proprietary and undocumented.
Just drag and drop your .GMB file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Even when direct translation format conversion fails, our platform can inspect the file's internal structure and extract raw text, XML, or embedded content, giving you a pragmatic workaround to recover your data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GMB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GMB file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Google Translator Toolkit or similar software from the "Localization Data Bundle" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to GMB, try Google Translator Toolkit or another comparable tool in the "Localization Data Bundle" category.
The GMB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GMB converter.
