The .GFORM file is a web shortcut used by the desktop version of Google Drive. It serves a single purpose: directing your web browser to a specific Google Forms document stored on Google's cloud servers.
Users often attempt to convert these files to back up their survey questions or user responses locally. However, the .GFORM format has severe disadvantages. It is a proprietary cloud-pointer that contains zero actual document content. It stores only a few lines of text containing the Document ID and URL. If you lose internet access or get locked out of your Google account, the file becomes completely useless.
Because the actual survey data lives behind a login screen on Google's servers, standard online file converters fail completely. They cannot bypass authentication to download your data. To convert the actual content, you must open the link in your browser and use Google's built-in web tools to print the form to PDF or export the survey responses to CSV.
