About GE files

A .GE file is primarily associated with GE Fanuc (now Emerson) PLC automation systems. Specifically, it represents a program source file or variable export used by Proficy Machine Edition (PME) to program Series 90-30, 90-70, and VersaMax controllers. These files contain critical Ladder Logic (LAD) or Structured Text (ST) essential for industrial machinery operation.

The real problem for engineers is the proprietary nature of the format. Opening a .GE file typically requires a licensed, expensive installation of Proficy Machine Edition or legacy Logicmaster 90 software, which may not run on modern Windows 10/11 machines without virtualization.
