About FT10 files

The .FT10 file format is a proprietary vector graphics drawing template created by Macromedia FreeHand 10. These files store master layouts, vector paths, typographic styles, and color palettes used to generate standard FreeHand documents (FH10). FreeHand was a powerful tool for page layout and illustration, but Adobe Systems acquired it in 2005 and officially discontinued it, rendering the format entirely obsolete.

The primary disadvantage of the .FT10 format is its dead ecosystem. Modern operating systems cannot run FreeHand, and contemporary web browsers cannot render the format natively. If you have an .FT10 file today, you are locked into a proprietary system that requires outdated software to open. Users typically need to convert these templates to modern vector formats like PDF, SVG, or AI (Adobe Illustrator) to edit the graphics or share the layouts with clients. However, exporting complex vector blends, gradient meshes, or multipage layouts from FreeHand templates often results in lost layers or broken text formatting.

Because the .FT10 format is closed and undocumented, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Usually, only the original software or highly specific import plugins (like those found in older versions of Illustrator) can properly read or export the vector data. If our analysis detects supported underlying vector streams or embedded raster previews, viewing or partial conversion to PDF or SVG may still be possible without needing a legacy virtual machine.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FT10 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
