About FSQ files

The .FSQ file is a proprietary CryENGINE Facial Editor Sequence File. It is developed by Crytek. Game developers use these files to store facial animation data, lip-sync timing, and morph target sequences for 3D character models in video games.

Users typically open and edit these files exclusively within the CryENGINE Sandbox editor. The format connects audio dialogue files to specific 3D facial rig movements.

You often need to extract data from .FSQ files to share animations with other departments. The current format has heavy limits. It is highly proprietary and closed. You cannot open it natively in web browsers, standard media players, or general 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya. Reading the file normally requires downloading and installing a massive game engine.

Game developers usually want to convert .FSQ to FBX for universal 3D animation interoperability. You might also want to convert it to JSON or XML to parse the raw timing data.

This file format is difficult to open or convert outside its native environment. Often, only the original CryENGINE software can properly read or export the complex facial data. Standard online converters fail because the internal structure is unique to the game engine. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FSQ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FSQ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FSQ converter.
