About FRI files

The .fri file is a proprietary Flash ROM Image used almost exclusively for delivering firmware updates to Godox photography equipment, including flashes like the Ving V860II and wireless triggers like the X1T. These files are typically opened and flashed to the hardware using official Godox utilities (G1, G2, or G3 software) or third-party tools like Flash Magic. Users often need to convert or extract these files to inspect the firmware code, troubleshoot failed updates, or bypass the official Windows-only software. The major disadvantage of the .fri format is its closed, proprietary nature. It requires outdated USB drivers and specific software versions to function correctly, causing frustration for users on macOS or modern Windows machines. If you need to analyze the code, the best target formats are standard BIN or HEX files, though extracting the payload may strip proprietary headers required by the flash. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
